Community and the Body of Christ in Action
On a cool, crisp, fall night in Cypress I received a small peek into heaven. Every once in a while God pulls back the veil just a little and gives us a glimpse. I have found in my walk with Him it usually involves the Body of Christ and the community that thrives within in it. Wednesday night was one of those nights at Pizza in the Park.
We gathered at Bear Creek Park. Moms, kids, community group members, grandmas, grandpas, and by the end of the night all of those labels had fallen away. We were all just friends and neighbors gathering together for food, fun, and fellowship. It took my boys all of half a second to bond with other boys and find a football to toss around. Other kids found the playground nearby, while others entered into a game of washers. The adults introduced themselves and just as quickly became engaged in conversation, and not just pleasantries, but real, authentic discourse. Old friendships were renewed and new ones began to blossom.
Pizza, LOTS OF PIZZA, was consumed, along with sweet treats, chips and drinks. All to the delight of the little people running around. About the time of dinner, God decided to show off a little bit more and remind us of His presence with the most beautiful sunset I have seen in a while. Just a reminder that He sees, He hears, and He knows what His children need.
I for one, no longer felt like a mom walking alone. I felt like part of a real community. One where I belonged, where I was seen, where I was valued and where my children found their place of belonging. I'm not sure there is anything more that I yearn for than for my kids to feel like they have a place, an extended family that they can depend on. They were reminded that they do last night. This momma's heart was definitely filled to overflowing.
If you missed out on Wednesday night, I want to assure you that we aren't done! We will have more gatherings soon and we hope that you come and fellowship with us. We hope that we can extend our community to include you! We want you to know that you are seen, heard, and loved immensely!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:4-5
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 12:38-39
